Ever feel like you can’t control the evil that you do? Sometimes you may want to do good, but can’t. Or better yet, ever feel like darkness has ensnared you and you can’t help being who you are (in a bad way)? Well, its because Sin has taken control of you and you really cannot stop sinning on your own. You are Sin’s little puppet/marionette. Paul speaks on this very thing:
Romans 7:19-20(NASB)
For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
So, what is the answer you ask? How do we cut the wires so we can be freed from the puppet master that is Sin?
The answer is in the next chapter of Romans.
Romans 8: 9-11(NASB)
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
In conclusion, we arrive at two points. One, sin makes us a slave whether we want to or not. And two, only through repenting and being born again in the Spirit will we be free from the shackles of Sin. Submit thoroughly to Christ so that the Spirit (Holy Spirit) may dwell in you.(MP)
